THE RIVER CENTER: COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND CONNECTIONSThe River Center serves as a one-stop clearinghouse for community resources and connections essential to the quality of life for people of all ages and abilities in the eastern Monadnock region. Located at 44-46 Concord Street in Peterborough, the Center serves the towns of Antrim, Bennington, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, Greenville, Hancock, Jaffrey, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Rindge, Sharon, and Temple. Its programs and services are free to all so that no one is excluded because of financial need. Information and Assisted Referral ServicesContact: Tammy Adams Hours: M, W, F 10am – 3 pm and T,Th 9am – 2:30 pm We help people find local, regional, and statewide services in the areas of housing, food and fuel assistance, family support, disability, money management, physical and mental health, domestic violence, support groups, community volunteer opportunities, and NH Department of Health and Human Services financial assistance programs (through NH EASY, an electronic application system). The FACT Book: A Guide to Local ResourcesWe publish The FACT BOOK, a comprehensive regional and statewide service guide, which is distributed through area schools, town offices, churches, libraries and social service agencies. An on-line version of the guide is also available on our website at, www.rivercenter.us. The guide is updated every two years; the 7th edition was published in March 2009. Money MattersPhone: 924-6800 The Money Matters asset-building program gives people of all abilities the opportunity to improve and control their financial situation. It includes financial workshops, tax preparation and individual money management coaching. The program is offered in collaboration with community volunteers, the IRS, UNH Cooperative Extension, Consumer Credit Counseling Services of NH and VT, and NH Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance. Employment Resource CenterPhone: 371-9473 Appointments are encouraged : M, W, F 9 am to 2 pm; T,Th 9 am to 1 pm Employment specialists provide the building blocks for successful employment through individual coaching and group workshops in job search techniques, interviewing skills, resume preparation, and filing of online and print applications. Community members looking for work are welcome to use the Center’s computers and printers, career assessment tools, wireless internet access. Autism Support GroupContact: Amanda DiNino: 924-3985 In collaboration with Monadnock Development Services, parents of children who experience autism meet two evenings each month for peer support and information exchange. Childcare is provided. People First of NH, Peterborough Young Adult Self-Advocacy ChapterPhone: 371-9473 Young adults (ages 16-30) who experience a developmental disability meet to learn how to make good decisions, understand their choices, learn about their rights and responsibilities, develop confidence and make friends. Finding Solutions to Gaps in Essential ServicesContact: Jane LaPointe: 924-6321 - JLaPointe@aol.com The River Center regularly convenes meetings to identify essential service gaps in the priority areas of food, shelter, warmth, and isolation reduction, and to consider community-based solutions for addressing these needs.
